A Cream Highlighter For Every Occasion.

A Cream Highlighter For Every Occasion.

I've been having a bit of a love affair with cream highlighters over the past few weeks. Bizarrely, come late summer, I was all about my MAC MSF in Soft and Gentle - which is a beautiful powder highlight if that's what you're in the market for - and went a long time without reaching for single cream in my collection. It wasn't until I had found my Benefit Watts Up in a random makeup bag, I though 'jeez, I remember you old friend'.

If you want to achieve that lit-from-within glow, super dewy yet natural look, then cream highlighters are really where it's at. Although, yes, there are more natural powder highlights for sure, the Hourglass powders are a great example of this, but nothing in my opinion compares to a cream.

I'm going to approach this post in three categories; very natural, natural and glam. Hopefully this will offer something for everyone and act as a great guide depending on the look you want to go for.

Very Natural

Glossier take the cake when it comes to the very natural, minimal look - not just for highlight but I'd say most of their range is reminiscent of that. Their Haloscopes were a standout product when they first launched, and the shade Quartz is my favourite. This has a really unique texture - it's not super creamy, but almost like Vaseline in a stick - that may not sound appealing, but I promise you, the results are fab. The best way I've found to apply it, is by rubbing the product onto my fingers and tapping it on my cheeks. You don't get punched in the face with shimmer, but you will get a lovely natural sheen to the skin. Although it is tinted, it's very sheer, so you won't end up over applying.

The Benefit Watts Up (forever typing Whats App instead!!) is a lovely champagne shade which blends so beautifully into the skin. This is kind of like the older sister to Glossier's Quartz. Still in the champagne family, but offers a little more pigment, and with that comes an added bit of shine. This is so easy to apply, and it's a really good option if you want something a little bit more than a subtle sheen.

My Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand will forever be the highlight I reach for if I really want my cheeks to pop. The packaging is the only thing that lets this down. The twist up top is a bit messy for my liking, and I also feel like you don' get a lot of product inside, which is a shame. I'd say this is more quality over quantity, and if you do have the budget for something a little more special, I'd recommend this every time. This is more golden than the previous two, but I can't explain how stunning this looks on the cheekbones. It's so seamless, no chunky bits of shimmer or harsh pigment, it really does look like you have just stepped off the Victoria Secret runway.

Current Favourites from Fresh.

Current Favourites from Fresh.

Fresh is a brand that I have been using for years now, and I continue to find new products I love from their range. They have a wonderful selection to suit any skin concern - I've even got my mum hooked!! I have my stand-out products which I use all the time, such as the Soy Cleanser and Rose Hydrating Mask, however I wanted to touch a few products I have been using lately which maybe I don't talk about all that much.

To give this post a little bit of context, my skin is dry/combo. I get an oily t-zone from time to time, but on the whole my skin tends to lean on the dry and dehydrated end of the scale. For that, I love to use products which offer a tonne of hydration, as well as brightening properties.

Let's try to go in order of application, so I guess we'll start with the mask...

I definitely don't use this everyday, however since living and working in London, my skin certainly needs a helping hand when it comes to easing congestion. Their Umbrian Clay Mask is your classic clay consistency that dries down and sucks out any dirt from your pores. I will apply this 1-2 times a week, mainly when I can see my skin really needs it, and it's a lovely way to detox the skin at the end of the day. You get quite a lot of product in here, I've had this tub for a while now and I still have plenty left. Their masks are more on the pricey side, I believe this retails for around £50, but I can't recommend them enough. This also contains camomile which is great for soothing the skin and avoiding that tight/stripped feeling you can sometimes get when using clarifying products.

Onto the more day-to-day products, the first being the Rose Hydrating Toner Mist - I can't start my day without this! I adore toners in the morning, especially ones you can simply mist onto the skin to perk-up and refresh the face. This is really soothing on the skin as well, and gives an instant dose of hydration - the rose scent isn't too overpowering which I appreciate.

Essences are a product I never really knew I needed in my skincare routine, but I'm hooked! They were used in traditional Korean skincare, and I feel like the SKII essence popularised them in the Western world, making other brands follow suit. The Fresh Black Tea Kombucha Treatment Essence is what I have been currently using and I love love love it. This has anti-pollution properties which I'm all about right now (thanks to the Kombucha) and the extracts of mandarin help to even out the skin's complexion. There's a lot of great benefits packed into this product which is why I've been reaching for it both day and night. I like to apply my essences after I've cleansed, but before any serums. They almost act as a hydration sponge for any moisturisers/oils you may apply after. Big win for me.

Have you tried Fresh? If so, what do you love from their range?

My Travel Makeup Bag: End of Summer Vacay

My Travel Makeup Bag: End of Summer Vacay

A couple of weeks ago I jetted off to Italy to enjoy a few days of sun, ice cream, and most importantly pizza! I wanted to her away before Autumn gets into full swing here in the UK - safe to say Autumn 2019 is definitely

I have definitely become a lot more minimal with my makeup choices and application. A full face of foundation seems, and feels, totally alien to me now. Instead, I've been sticking to concealer and a touch of powder when necessary. I find the Nars Soft Matte Concealers so easy to travel with, and they are my perfect formula for both under the eyes, and to correct any blemishes on the skin. I do have two shades to really get the most out of this fantastic formula. As for powder, I'm huge Hourglass fan. I find they matify the skin, without looking cakey and masking your natural glow. This handy trio has a few different shades to pick from, personally I just mix them all together and go to town!

Bronzer, blush and highlight are my staples, I will never travel without these. I'm back using the Hoola Bronzer which I find is such a lovely shade when you have a bit of a tan. This mini is adorable and perfect to pop in your travel makeup bag. Doesn't this just remind of holidays?! I'm not too fussy with my blush, but on this particular trip I threw in the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion. Their powders are just lovely, and this is a beautiful coral shade which I love to wear in the summer months. I kept it very simple with highlighter and went for the classic MAC MSF in Soft and Gentle. This is a beautiful champagne shade which adds the most wonderful glow.

I never do much with my brows these day, a quick bit of definition is all I really need. My favourite for this is the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil for filling in any sparse areas, and making them appear fuller and more defined. This had a little triangular nib that is super easy to use, complete with the handy spooly on the end, this is amuse for any travel makeup kit. Once I'm done filling them in, I will set them down the Benefit 24 Hour Brow Setter, and boy does this stuff work!

On a daily basis I will tend to reach for a cream eyeshadow to act as a 'one wash wander' type look. I love the By Terry Ombre Blackstars as they are very travel friendly and have a lovely shade selection. My personal favourite is Bronze Moon which can vert easily be transitioned from day-to-night. I did also throw in my Nars Kalahari eye duo incase I want to switch things up. This contains a shimmery taupe and a matte brown, so great for amping up any look. I'm really keen to pick up more of these, so do let know which duo is your favourite too! In addition to that, I've packed my Topshop Liquid Liner incase I'm feeling extra sassy one night. Liner is the easiest way to add a bit of drama to your eye look, so I always love to have one on hand. I've only been using one mascara lately, and that's my L'Oreal Lash Paradise. I adore this for giving volume and length to my lashes - it seems to do it all, without flaking!

As for lips, I normally throw in a nude lip liner, and about 10 different options! Changing up your lip colour is the best way to switch up your look, especially from day-to-night. Add a couple of your current favourites and you'll be good to go!
